LifeConnection & H1N1

disclaimer: Nothing herein is intended to take the place of counsel and advice from trained medical professionals. These are some, somewhat, random tips for us to implement as a church body and is in no way intended to be all inclusive or exhaustive. This is strictly for informational purposes.

We are entering into cold and flu season and as a church we are doing all we can to protect all who attend from H1N1 (Swine Flu).  We want to take all precautionary measures to protect all attenders, especially our most vulnerable, from H1N1.

We have one confirmed diagnosis of H1N1 from our nursery and pre-school area and at least 2 others who have been unknowingly exposed to H1N1 in the last week.  We continue to pray for safe recovery and thank God that all three boys are doing well.

Here are a couple of helpful links that will educate you on H1NI sent from one of our leaders:

Children’s Mercy – “Information on H1N1 Influenza” (Here)
Fight the Flu – A helpful resource site (Here)

Because we take this very seriously we are taking significant precautions.

  1. Every KidsCo classroom is equipped with needed sanitation supplies.
  2. Toys and equipment will be properly sanitized after each service.
  3. Proper sanitation is implemented in preparation of the elements for the Lord’s Supper.
  4. Hand sanitizer will be provided for those taking part in the Lord’s Supper.

These are only helpful when coupled with parents making smart and wise choices regarding their children and others.

  1. If your child has had a fever less than 24 hours prior to the service you should not bring them to church or Community Group.
  2. If your child has been vomiting less than 12 hours prior to the service you should not bring them to church or Community Group.
  3. If your child has discolored mucus you should not bring them to church or Community Group.
  4. If your child has knowingly been exposed to H1N1 you should not bring them to church or Community Group.
  5. And obviously, if your child has a confirmed case of H1N1 you should not bring them to church or Community Group.

If we will take some simple steps toward wellness and make wise choices regarding our health and the health of our children we can help ensure a safe environment for our children and the KidsCo volunteers who love and teach our children every week.

  1. Make sure your children are getting plenty of sleep, there is a direct connection between sleep and wellness. Here are some general guidelines you may find helpful (source)
    1-4 Month Old
    : 14 ½ – 15 ½ hours per day
    4-12 Months Old
    : 14 – 15 hours per day
    1-3 Years Old
    : 12 – 14 hours per day
    3-6 Years Old
    : 10 ¾ – 12 hours per day
    7-12 Years Old
    : 10 – 11 hours per day
    12-18 Years Old
    : 8 ¼ – 9 ½ hours per day
  2. Teach our children what not to touch.
  3. Don’t allow our children to share drinks, etc.
  4. Help our children eat well.

None of this is rocket science, I know, but taking every precaution is an outworking of the Gospel and will benefit everyone who attends LifeConnection either on a Sunday morning or in a Community Group throughout the week.
