The Baptism of Jesus and Identity Formation
In a culture obsessed with self-discovery, Jesus’ baptism in Matthew 3:13-17 reveals a radically different approach to identity. Rather than crafting our own identity, we receive it from God. When Jesus was baptized, he identified with sinners and demonstrated three truths about our identity in Christ: we are united to him, indwelt by his Spirit, and beloved by the Father. Unlike self-made identities built on career, relationships, or achievements that can crumble, our identity in Christ is unshakeable. This received identity transforms how we navigate cultural pressures and provides the stability our souls desperately need.
