The Cost of Discipleship
The Cost of Discipleship
Scripture: Matthew 8:18-22
Following Jesus is not a casual commitment or a side interest. It is a call to place Him at the center of every part of life, and that will cost you something real. In Matthew 8:18-22, two encounters reveal the two most common ways people keep Jesus at the margins: approaching Him with pride and self-importance, or postponing full commitment until a more convenient time. The scribe who called Jesus ‘Teacher’ knew facts about Him but did not truly know Him. The reluctant disciple was not asking for a day off. He was asking to delay following Jesus for months or even years. Discipleship is not a future plan. It is a present obligation that shapes your schedule, your finances, your relationships, and everything in between. The cost is real, but what you gain is Christ Himself, and that is worth everything.
