Scripture: Matthew 9:9-17

We are wired to believe that effort equals outcome, and we carry that same mindset into our faith. But in Matthew 9, Jesus makes it clear that the kingdom of God is built on grace, not religious performance. He called Matthew, a despised tax collector, not because Matthew had cleaned himself up, but because grace meets people exactly where they are. Jesus ate with sinners, challenged the Pharisees, and used the image of new wine in fresh wineskins to show that grace is not a patch on the old system. It is something entirely new. Our standing before God is not determined by how well we perform, but by what Jesus has already done on our behalf.
